OSEES “Terminal Jape”
About: Osees’ music never fails to inspire me. If I’m in between projects or staring down the barrel of creative burnout, I take a non-single track and give it a video. This is one of many, and many more there’ll likely be.
Role: Concept, Editor, Animation
Type: Personal Project
Overview: With the internet seeing a daily tsunami of video content, repurposing existing footage feels almost like a responsibility. But I’m also interested in the idea of combining long-forgotten works to create something new, and in the process reconfigure them with alternative meaning. With Terminal Jape, its themes of government surveillance and systemic control got me looking at promo films for early computers and wartime propaganda. In this new formation and context, the films’ original promises of progress and unity become hollow, highlighting instead contemporary fears around freedom and control.
